Environmental Science Instructor

Kathy Roos

Kathy’s career in the environmental sciences started in the 1990s after she earned a multidisciplinary degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Oregon. She moved to Idaho where she established Idaho Smart Growth to help Idaho communities expand their walking and biking paths and to help them find alternatives to sprawl. She also started Land Trust of the Treasure Valley to protect ecologically important parcels in the Boise area. Both organizations are thriving today.

Upon moving to Utah, she was excited by the opportunity to teach about the environment. The Introduction to Environmental Science class was the perfect fit. Kathy had taken a similar course when she started at UO which inspired her to dedicate her life to building knowledge about the environment. She hopes to inspire her students to do the same.
